How much does a cellular trail camera plan cost?
A cellular trail camera plan costs $0 to $20 a month per camera. The price depends on two things: how many photos the camera sends each month, and whether the brand charges every camera the full rate. SPYPOINT is the only major brand with a free tier (100 photos a month). Tactacam starts at $5 for 250 photos and discounts additional cameras. Moultrie Mobile starts at $9.99 for 1,000 images. Stealth Cam Command costs $20 for the first camera and drops to $8 per camera once you run eight.

How many photos will my camera actually send?
This is the number people guess wrong. A camera on a busy deer trail during the rut can send 30 photos a day, which is 900 a month. The same camera on a cabin door sends five a day. The cheapest way to find out is to run the camera on an SD card for a week first, count the photos, and multiply by four. Then set the delay: a 30 second delay instead of 5 seconds can cut the count in half on a trail, which can drop you a whole plan tier.

Is the camera or the plan the bigger cost?

The SPYPOINT Flex-M lists around $55 and can run for nothing on the free tier if the spot is quiet. That is why the cheapest camera is not always the cheapest setup: run the plan math first, then choose the camera.
Can I pause a plan between seasons?
Tactacam plans can be paused, which suits hunters who scout from late summer through the season and then pull cameras. Monthly plans from the other brands can simply be cancelled and restarted. Lengthen the delay between triggers, turn off burst mode for transmission, reduce sensitivity at busy spots, and aim the camera across a trail rather than at a feeder or mineral lick where animals linger. Many cameras also let you send only thumbnails and keep full-resolution files on the SD card, which lowers data use without losing photos.
